Sketchative

A iterative drawing program that allows the user to be socially creative. The user can draw, pass their drawings to others to continue to finish, jump on public sketches, and do private sketches with their friends.

Goals

  • Draw Intuitively
  • Social Networking
  • View Other Peoples Creations

TASK

Our outside project for General Assembly's UX course was to come up with an iPhone app. My idea was an iterative drawing program. Through several user testings I was able to create personas, journey maps, and prototype to judge the interests and wants of the target users to create a solid app blue print that allows the users to socialize creatively. There has been significant interest to see this app actually produced and released.

Card Sort to FInal Site map

Using a closed card sort tests with several users I consolidated the card sort data into a base site navigation for Sketchative.  The Final Site Map is culmination of the original card sort data and issues raised during user journey maps, wireframing/prototyping, and in person user testing of the prototype.

User Flow - Goal: Drawing

The user flow for the user wishing to draw.  As a primary goal, drawing needed to be easily accessible.  While there are quite a few different path type to drawing, ( i.e. saved work, group sketch, join sketch), there are only one or two simple pages/clicks for the user to pass through, all relating to drawing and there is an option to directly start drawing.

Another primary goal, the social aspect, is forefront as soon as the user logs in with their wall, friend requests, and notifications to join sketches, as well as the easy ability to create social experiences through drawing.

Personas

As there was no initial data, I created personas based on careful assumptions of Sketchative's intended users.  I then interviewed several potential users who might potential fit Sketchative's audience.  After collecting and synthesizing the data, I made tweaks to the primary and secondary users to better fit the intended audience.  Sarah, primary, who loves the social collaborative creativity and Raul, secondary, who may want to interact socially but mostly wants a creative outlet to relax.

USER JOURNEY MAP : SARAH - Primary

The User journey takes place from a point outside of Sketachitve where the user first discovers and downloads Sketchative.  The Journey Map was used to discover roadblocks, after download, that that user might encounter in the site structure when trying to reach their primary goal.   The final site map and wireframes/prototype were modified and based on these discoveries.

The wireframes and prototype were built at the same time using Axure.  The prototype was designed using knowledge gained through the UX process described above and then tested with several users and iteratively update when roadblocks were found such as easy access to inbox through the main menu.
